If you’re like me, you love a good deal. Those “20% off” promotions can be super tempting, right? I used to grab things without thinking twice, just to avoid missing out. But here's the thing: I often didn’t know if I was actually getting a good price. Stores were deciding for me what was a “deal”, and that had to stop.
The solution? A simple list. That’s right, no fancy apps or high-tech solutions. Just a good old-fashioned list can save you money and help you make smarter purchases.
Nothing gets bought unless it’s on the list. For me, I use Airtable to keep my list organized, but a notebook or even a scrap of paper works just as well. Whenever I see a deal I’m interested in, I add the product name, the store, the price, and the date. That’s it. Now, I’ve got a reference point.
Here’s the magic: when I see the same product later, I can compare prices. Over time, patterns emerge, and I get a feel for what a “great deal” truly is.
I’ve had my eye on Sony WH1000XM4 Noise Cancelling Headphones. One day, I saw them on sale for $199 and jumped on it — FOMO got me! But since buying them, I’ve noticed they go on sale for $199 every couple of months. That’s their typical sale price. If I ever see them for $150, I’ll know it’s a real steal.
Sure, it’s possible that a deal might never come around again. But let’s be honest — if I didn’t even know the product existed before the sale, I can probably live without it. This method is about being deliberate and confident in my purchases, knowing I’m getting a good product at a fair price.
So, no more FOMO. Just smart shopping with a simple list!
